About the Heading Structure Checker
Headings give a page its outline for readers, screen readers and search engines. The checker lists every heading in order and flags a missing or repeated H1, skipped levels and empty headings.
How it works
- We fetch the URL from our server like a crawler: redirects are followed (up to five), private and internal addresses are refused, and large pages are capped.
- The checks run on the live HTML and response headers. Nothing is guessed: every finding shows what we observed.
- Results are not stored unless you are signed in, in which case they appear in your dashboard history.
Frequently asked questions
Is more than one H1 a penalty?
No, but one clear H1 that states the topic is the simplest structure for people and assistive technology.
