About the XML Sitemap Validator
Enter the sitemap URL, or just the domain to test /sitemap.xml. The validator parses the file safely and checks the root element and namespace, the 50,000-URL and 50 MB limits, absolute same-host URLs, duplicates and lastmod formats.
How it works
- We fetch the URL from our server like a crawler: redirects are followed (up to five), private and internal addresses are refused, and large pages are capped.
- The checks run on the live HTML and response headers. Nothing is guessed: every finding shows what we observed.
- Results are not stored unless you are signed in, in which case they appear in your dashboard history.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need lastmod?
It is optional. If you use it, keep it accurate: Google uses lastmod only when it is consistently reliable.
